Discussion > Workers Unite-Safety Problems for Teachers too

Toxic Dispatches
After the death of two firemen in the Deutsch Bank fire, the head of the firefighter's union has called for an independent investigation by the state attorney general. Stephen J. Cassidy states that
"the department was 'not capable' of doing its own investigation because of its own involvement and its relationship with other city agencies involved."
We should keep this in mind as we send teachers into schools that are suspected of being toxic. The health effects may not be as heroic but rather long term.
Regarding PS7 in Elmhurst Queens and this teachers concern about vapor intrusion, the city has fallen on the wrong side of federal OSHA laws, the state Public Employees Safety and Health Act, a request through discovery by the courts, a request for a full investigation by the city council and a state law (and possibly federal Hippa laws) to provide medical records to health care providers. The dysfunction that Mr. Cassidy describes is life threatening for "all" union members.
