In a meeting with the chiefs, FDNY Commisioner "Sideline" Scoppetta acknowledged that FDNY had no plan to fight fires in toxic buildings.  Inspections being a lesser priority for FDNY, do you think FDNY had an inspection plan for toxic buildings? Here is some of what Marcia Kramer reported:

With the deadly fire just over a month old there are apparently still no new plans for fighting fires in toxic buildings.

"I'm shocked," said Deputy Chief Richard Alles.

Alles was stunned by a disclosure he says was made by Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and his top aides at a behind-the-scenes meeting Monday night when the chiefs reportedly put Scoppetta and his men on the spot.

They asked how they should attack a fire like the one at Deutsche Bank that resulted in the deaths of two firemen.

The answer?

"They are in the process of designing plans ... one month after the fire," Alles said.

Scoppetta and his top aides reportedly revealed the lack of plans at a private session Monday night, with some 50 chiefs assigned to Division I in lower Manhattan. They told their union reps what happened.

"Can't conceive of how anybody thinks we should leave anybody in a position where there's a question as to whether or not they were taking the steps to keep the city safe," Bloomberg said. "That's what their job is."

 What about Sideline Scoppetta, Mr. Mayor?  Why are you leaving him in a position where there's a question as to whether or not he was taking the steps to keep the city safe?  Isn't that his job?  Or do you pontificate one set of rules for the scapegoats and another set of rules for your cronies?

It's time for you to decide Mr, Mayor. Are you a big enough man to admit that a mistake was made or are you just another small minded politician? Decide. Are you a big enough man to take the high road, the noble road, the road where you may have to eat a little crow for the sake of three wrongly maligned fire officers or are you stuck on the low road with the rest of the small minded politicians?
