« FDNY's 'Know-how & knowledge' distribution infrastructure was broken before the August 18, 2007 fatal fire and Scoppetta dropped the ball by not fixing it | Main | LMDC & NYS Urban Development Corporation Act and Immunity »

Déjà vu all over again!

If FDNY dropped the ball - and we emphatically deny this and have the evidence to prove it (Click Here) - , who dropped it and when was it dropped?  FreePetey has discovered evidence that proves the ball was dropped by the very top of FDNY many years before Captain Peter Bosco arrived at the Ten House.

FreePetey has already brought to your attention the conversation between Mayor Bloomberg and FDNY Commissioner Scoppetta as reported in the NY Daily News.  Recall that FDNY wanted to inspect 130 Liberty Street and Deutsche Bank, the owners of 130 Liberty Street before LMDC, blocked them.  Deutsche Bank would not let the firefighters enter attempting to enter to search for potential human remains (click here and click here). The Daily News quoted Mayor Bloomberg as saying:

"I [Bloomberg] asked him [Scoppetta] point-blank, was this something that Deutsche Bank was slowing us down, or did he want that test done first? And he said quite explicitly he does not want to jeopardize the lives of our firefighters," the mayor said. "He would prefer to wait two more days."

This conversation is proof positive that both Bloomberg and Scoppetta had actual knowledge of the danger that the toxins inside of 130 LIberty Street posed to firefighters in 2002 - more than 4 years before Captain Peter Bosco arrived at the Ten House.  Let me repeat this: in 2002, Bloomberg and Scoppetta knew about the problem.

But what happened next? What happened after Bloomberg and Scoppetta had their conversation?  Did Bloomberg and Scoppetta put their heads together and come up with a solution?

Take a look at the CBS News Article and the NY Times Article both of which are dated June 2002.

The newspapers report that the impasse between FDNY and Deutsche Bank was settled on Friday, June 14, 2002 with an agreement to protect the health and welfare of FDNY inspectors. The FDNY inspectors would wear "protective suits" and "respirators".

Holy Herod Antipas, Batberg! (Click Here).  FDNY recognized the necessity for "protective suits" and "respirators" before entering 130 Liberty Street more than 4 years before Captain Peter Bosco arrived at the TEN HOUSE!  FDNY knew in 2002!  With a little prodding from the Deutsche Bank, FDNY learned how to safely enter and work within the toxic Deutsche Bank Building.

Who dropped the ball?  The answer to this question is easy. The ball was dropped by those within FDNY who possessed the knowledge.  They had the knowledge but did not transfer it to the TEN HOUSE.  Not only did they not pass the knowledge to the TEN HOUSE, they did not transfer to the TEN HOUSE the equipment, training, instructions and decontamination gear that their knowledge told them was necessary to safely enter into and work within the toxic Deutsche Bank Building.

It is FreePetey's interpretation that FDNY did not want the TEN HOUSE to enter and inspect the uber toxic Deutsche Bank building. Otherwise, FDNY would have transfered both the knowledge and the safety equipment, protocols and training to the TEN HOUSE. FDNY's failure to do so confirmed that FDNY did not want or intend the TEN HOUSE to enter and inspect the uber toxic Deutsche Bank building.

This story is Déjà vu all over again! Recall that the very same thing happened in 2006 again with the search for Potential Human Remains (Click Here). Again in 2006, FDNY figured it out yet failed to share the solution or the safety equipment, protocols and training with the Ten House (Click Here).

What would it have taken for FDNY to pass the knowledge to the TEN HOUSE and provide them with the equipment? Think about it? Let me explain how easy it would have been for FDNY to pass this knowledge to the TEN HOUSE and provide them with the equipment. Let us suppose the FDNY Commissioner had issued the following memorandum after being alerted to the problem by the 2002 impasse. Would FDNY be in this predicament today? Here is the fictional memo showing what Scoppetta could have done had he not dropped the ball:

Sorry, Nick, you were alerted to the problem by the 2002 impasse yet you did nothing. You f#@%ed up! You dropped the ball. It is not fair to 'sideline' three innocent, honest and hardworking fire officers for your f#@% up. In fact, it is downright dastardly. They didn't f#@% up. You f#@%ed up! Your good buddy, Mayor Bloomberg, knows you  f#@%ed up! Remember he had the conversation with you as reported in the NY Daily News.

Recall what a testy Mayor Bloomberg was reported to have said in a report by Marcia Kramer concerning the "sidelining" the the three FDNY scapegoats (Click Here).  [When you read it, there is more verisimilitude if you read it in a nasal, high-pitched, and bumptious tone] (Also, click here):

"Can't conceive of how anybody thinks we should leave anybody in a position where there's a question as to whether or not they were taking the steps to keep the city safe," Bloomberg said. "That's what their job is."

Did you do your job, Nick?  Here is what you said, Nick

“So, we will recognize, acknowledge and learn from our mistakes,” Mr. Scoppetta continued, “and we will hold everybody accountable, no matter where this investigation takes us.” (NY Times, August 28, 2007, Al Baker, 3 Disciplined Over Fatal Fire at Bank Tower) (See also, Click Here)
